How to Have Better Relationships and More Wellbeing with Dr. Jody Carrington
Do you notice fear interfering with your relationships and wellbeing? Today, I’m interviewing Dr. Jody Carrington about how connecting with those around you, and improving your relationships with others, can improve the relationship you have with yourself. If you are able to hold space within yourself to be empathetic towards others, it becomes much easier to be empathetic towards your own fears.
Who is Dr. Jody Carrington?
Dr. Jody Carrington is a speaker, author and overall game changer. She’s the best selling Canadian author of Kids These Days: A Game Plan For (Re)Connecting With Those We Teach, Lead, & Love*. She's a child psychologist by trade, and over the past 15 years, has learned that empowerment in our children starts with those who hold them.
Through her work treating families with some of the most difficult stories, she realized that we are wired to do hard things, and that we can handle those hard things much easier when we remember that we are wired for connection.
She says the biggest challenge facing each of us these days is that we've never been more disconnected, making it harder than ever to determine if we really truly matter in this world. Dr Jody’s spirit is warm, witty, and bold. She ain’t afraid to drop an F bomb or two.
Her insights into why we’re wired for hard things and how imperative it is to re-connect is a conversation you can’t miss. Tune in to the episode to listen now.
Fear of Success is Fear of Responsibility
Dr. Jody drops a lot of truth and shares what she’s learned from treating people with some of the most traumatic stories. She also learned a lot of life lessons from growing her business and trying to stay connected and present for her family. It’s not easy juggling everything.
But at the same time it’s easy to be scared of success. Of growing and becoming bigger than you are. So we often sabotage ourselves. So how do we overcome this obstacle? Dr. Jody says, “The definition of doing something, and being brave, is doing something where you can’t predict the outcome. That’s what brave is.” Moving forward and doing it anyway. Good advice.
She continues to say that we are wired to do hard things. We may not think so. Or believe we can’t handle a tough situation but through her work she sees just how resilient humans are.
She says, “We are wired to do hard things. Whatever you have on your plate right now, you are wired for it. You only survive those hard things so much better when you remember this: we are wired for connection.”
